What is Bruce Real’s mission?
The mission is to provide quality housing options for young professionals. When the owner of Bruce Real graduated from engineering and moved to Bruce County in 2011, there were limited housing options for young professionals, so he had to rent a room in a rundown house with six other people. 12 years later, after running a successful AirBnB business for tourists, he decided to start creating quality housing options for young professionals.
Is Bruce Real affiliated with Bruce Power?
No, and Bruce Power does not own or manage any housing rentals, and so it is up to free-market participants such as Bruce Real to help fill that need in the local economy.
When can I see the rooms?
With over 100 requests to see the rooms to date, we have developed a system for this. Please request a viewing by filling out the Google Form at the below link (only takes 1-2 minutes).
What is the preferred payment method for paying rent?
It is best to pay monthly, on the first of every month, using e-transfer.
What are the conditions of the lease?
Leases end no later than April 30. Rooms may only be rented from September to April. The house is used as a short-term rental during the months of May thru August.
A standard lease will be used. The house is shared with other renters who also rent bedrooms.
The landlord still uses the house, and performs regular maintenance and updates to the house. The landlord does not need to provide notice upon entry.
First and last month’s rent is required.
No smoking, no pets and no parties please.
House Rules
– Pots and pans to be cleaned promptly after meals.
– Keep common areas tidy. Please keep your belongings in your room.
– Quiet time starts at 9pm. Please respect the quiet time of other housemates.
– Housemates will need to agree on who is responsible for a) unloading the dishwasher, b) taking out the garbage and c) other maintenance such as shoveling walkways.
Is carpooling an option?
Carpooling is encouraged, but ultimately up to the driver. If you are without a vehicle or carpool option, there is a bus that runs 3 times in the morning and 4 times in the afternoon to help you get to and from work. Carpooling back at the end of the day is usually much simpler given your access to many drivers throughout the work day. The Port Elgin and Kincardine bus schedule is provided on the linked Bruce Power website below.
